Earth
A horned, winged figure sits on a black stone cube. Two naked figures, a man and a woman, stand chained by the neck to the pedestal, but the chains are loose enough to be removed at any time. The Devil's right hand is raised in a gesture that mirrors the benediction of the Hierophant, inverted. A flaming torch burns between the horned figure's legs. The image is one of voluntary bondage – captivity that persists not because escape is impossible but because the captives have stopped believing they want to leave. Capricorn's rulership gives the card its specific character: the chains are material, the cube is earthly, and the attachment is to physical comfort, social status, and bodily appetite rather than to spiritual aspiration.

A chain is loosening today. Something you have been bound to is losing its grip, and the space opening up feels both relieving and frightening. Do not rush to fill the gap with a new attachment. Overview
The chains have been broken, or are in the process of being broken, and the experience is both liberating and disorienting. Psychologically, the reversed Devil describes the moment when a person finally sees the attachment clearly enough to act – when the cost of staying becomes greater than the fear of leaving, and the hand reaches up to loosen the chain. Saturn in Capricorn reversed produces the collapse of the old structure: the material framework that supported the bondage is itself dissolving, and the person has no choice but to face what lies beneath. The Earth element unblocked manifests as a sudden reconnection with the body and with physical reality that had been numbed or distorted by the attachment. The reversed card is not comfortable – freedom after long captivity is a shock to the system, and the person may feel exposed, vulnerable, and uncertain of how to live without the chains that had become a kind of identity. The torch between the Devil's legs, when reversed, suggests that the energy that once fed the bondage is now available for other uses – but it must be consciously redirected or it will simply find a new form of captivity.
